Today we are posting a cherry blossoms engagement photo session we took in Queen Elizabeth Park last year. It is March again. And nothing sings spring louder than the froth of cherry blossoms. Our couple, Carly and Mike opted for a spring engagement session just for the cherry blossoms.
Nonetheless to say, cherry blossoms are magnificent. When they bloom, they hold a pink canopy above us, like a romantic dream. When they are blown to the ground, the delicate petals form a blanket on the ground, leaving behind traces of that dream. No wonder so many engaged couples love an engagement session with the background of cherry blossoms. But Carly and Mike did it for more than just that.
Both of them are originally from Japan. Though growing up in Vancouver, Japanese culture is a big part of their life. Cherry blossoms symbolize beauty, grace and simplicity, and for centuries it has inspired poets, musicians and writers in Japan. It is important for Carly and Mike to honour their tradition at this very important time of their life.
We remember that morning. It was a bit chilly, after a whole day of rain. The cherry blossoms petals were carried with the wind. Carly and Mike walked toward us, wearing Japanese traditional clothing Yukata.
Reflecting their heritage struck a chord with us. Being first-generation immigrants ourselves, Chinese culture always lies at the core of our heart. Getting to know these two makes us feel a connection to them.
Culture and tradition aside, incorporating elements that are important and familiar to our clients is also very helpful to boost their confidence in the photo session. Confidence is critical in a photo session. Choosing a location where the couple take their walk after dinner, helping them decide on an outfit that they feel most comfortable with, and using their personal experience to customize the session theme, will all help them feel relaxing in front of our camera lens, therefore leading to an amazing photo experience.
We are grateful that Carly and Mike trusted us with their adventure. And we are glad that together, the four of us made some great and unique photographs. Take a look!
